Date of Hike: 08/16/09
Trail Conditions: good after a few dry days
Special Equipment Required: poles useful
Comments: I followed the route from the book 50 Hikes in Vermont from the Green Mountain Club: Sherburne Pass Trail to Pico Spur to summit, with a shortcut loop near the top using the work road and the Summit Glade ski trail back to the Sherburne Pass Trail at Pico Junction. Note: the ski trail was not marked (no sign) but it wasn't hard to figure out.
There is a spot right next to the trail at 1.1 mile in called Sink Hole Brook, where a stream disappears down into a big sinkhole- that one is mentioned in the book. There is another sinkhole just south of it that eats halfway across the trail; the trail repair work looked makeshift and the sinkhole looked like it might have been recently formed.
