The snow was hard packed and smooth and slippery and we wore micro spikes all day and carried snowshoes. All the rain yesterday knocked all the ice and snow off the trees and it was like walking on a mosaic of ice shards. The warm temperatures today softened up the snow considerably for the steep part of the descent.
