Casual Hiker

I was looking for a short hike to do on a hot afternoon, not having had a chance to hike in a week or so. Pleasant Mountain is not far from where I am staying in Raymond, so I thought I'd give it a shot.
I went up on the Southwest Ridges Trail, which begins from a dirt road on the western side of the mountain. The trail starts steep, and comes well supplied with deerflies. I could have done with a few truckloads less of those!
After huffing and puffing up the first third of a mile, the trail became somewhat less steep, and opened up into occasional views from the ridges. At this point I discovered a bonus that made the hike worthwhile. Fresh Maine blueberries were ripe, and in abundant supply! It slowed the hike down a bit, but I was a very happy hiker indeed. Walk 10 feet, scoop up 5 or 6 berries. Eat, repeat process.
Eventually, after much happy munching, I made it to the South Peak. I ended up turning around here, but with some splendid views and a lot of yummy blueberries this turned out to be a wonderful hike on a miserably hot day. Highly recommended for munching and hiking.
