We are taking a 4-day trip to the Adirondacks this weekend, but all the campgrounds are closed except for Fish Creek Ponds, according to the DEC website. Does anyone know if one can camp in a closed campground after the season, or is this illegal? We are going to the Putnam Pond or Paradox Lake area. I know in many places in the Adirondacks there are unofficial road-side campsites that people use; does anyone know of any that are in this area, in the event that we can't camp in the DEC campground? (Backpacking to a lean-to is not a great option right now - being 5 months pregnant doesn't make an overnight pack fit very well.)
