Having been placed the previous day by the Boy Scouts, the small American flags stood sentry over each grave marker, creating a sadly beautiful sight. The early morning weather was perfect...grass still wet from the dew, bright blue sky, warm and dry, and just enough breeze to wave the flags. The only sounds were of birds, quiet voices, and the occasional distant car door shutting. Sadly, this peaceful setting was disturbed by the obnoxious, full-throttled sound of four Harley Davidsons, whose clueless riders were either too studpid to know, or too inconsiderate to care, about even the most basic cemetery decorum. Thankfully, their visit was short, and they soon drove off to disturb the peace and quiet of countless other southern Rhode Island residents. The rest of my walk continued as it started, visiting the graves of relatives and friends' relatives, admiring the beauty of the land and the monuments, and looking at the presently unused acres that will be filled all too soon.
