All the hiking I've done & I have never seen a bear or a coyote - not much wildlife as far as that goes. A dear here & there, birds, snakes etc. but that's about it. This past Saturday I saw both a bear and a coyote. Unfortunately both were dead alongside the road near the Keene exit. I just thought this was a bit unusual. The coyote actually looked more wolf - very large and a full fluffy coat; not scrawny like coyotes often look. Beautiful speciman. It was a real bummer to see them both - but then seeing dead animals always gets to me. Just curious if anyone else saw them & if this is a pretty rare incident for these species? How many coyotes/ wolves are up there anyway? I thought that was rare. It sure would have been exciting to see them alive.

There are plenty of coyotes, and essentially 0 wolves. There may be a transient from time to time, or a release, but there are no breeding pairs of wolves in the ADKs, at least that is the party line. Same song for mountain lions.
