The PeakMaster & I remember finding a survey marker on Rump Mtn at the register in 9/90 while PapaBear a few years later in 10/06 did not. Did someone really go all the way up there to swipe one?

I was with Papa Bear last October on this peak. There were two bumps of nearly equal height and we found 2 jars and a 3rd broken one on a tree on the more easterly bump. He dug around the tree quite a bit but no marker. I think he started digging a little on the westerly bump before I found the jars and he came over. He can probably fill in the details alittle better.

I did notice a lot of register entries on this peak. More than I would have expected. Maybe a thief among them??? :(

A FEW YEARS?. Like 16 years! :)

Our group also found the survey marker on Rump Mtn. I recall it not being that obvious (in the open). I believe it was sticking out of a pile of rocks with an extended shaft (?). We got some very limited views nearby.
That would definitely be a very bad sign. The shaft, after all, is what should be embedded solidly in rock, usually they were secured with lead or cement. The notes from 1916 states "A BRONZE DISK CEMENTED IN A DRILL HOLE IN OUTCROPPING ROCK.", so if it was loose 16 years ago I wouldn't hold out much hope.

Obsessive that I am (but I'm not pursuing the 3K list), I have been known to go back 3 or more times for a lost survey marker, but given the information available, I would probably pass on going back to search for this one.

That's funny, especially when looking at the given stability. Who in hell would steal a benchmark on a peak like this ?
