I first saw this reported on Telemark Tips. Carl Skoog, a famous climber and photographer from the Cascades has died in a climbing accident in South America.
Some of you rec.backcountry old timers may remember Lowell Skoog. And just about anybody who has ever leafed through a Patagonia catalog has seen one or more of Carl's great photographs. And if you follow backcountry skiing, you will recognize Carl's name as one of the guys who skied Mowich Face with Andrew McLean and Rene? Dubois several years ago.
The following link is to a thread with a translation of a news report along with a summary of what happened by Lowell.
Very, very sad thing.
