About six inches of loose snow remain on the road while there are still as much as six feet at higher elevations. By the end of the day a good portion of the state trail was running water, and Santanoni Brook had risen enough that crossing it to access the new/old trail to Santanoni could have been problematic at that time. This was why the three of chose to climb Santanoni first and descend to Bradley Pond later in the day. As usual the herd path from Santanoni to Time Square was impossible to find after dropping off the summit requiring a bushwhack. The herd path to Couch was easier to locate although frequently we were off trail. We encountered the first snow ridges of the season along the trail to Bradley Pond. We generally were quite lucky as the snow conditions allowed for easy hiking with snowshoes. It is possible should Friday's temperature reach into the 70s snowshoe postholing could be fairly common.
