Managed to do the Santanonis in a long (very long) dayhike. One of our hiking group had rented snowshoes that weren't all that adequate, and he was s-l-o-w on any kind of steepish downhill. Plus he kept losing a snowshoe and had to go back to get it.

On the plus side, we managed to climb all three peaks, the weather, although cold, provided spectacular views, and three more winter 46er peaks have been completed!

Detailed writeup and trip report available here .

Thanks for keeping the trails open! :D

I once had a snowshoe fall off and did not notice either! Fortunately, someone behind me did notice! :D

I will have my own TR up shortly...

Ah... those were your vehicle tracks back at the trailhead...(just read your trip report). I was wondering who that was that came in and left without hiking while we were there on Sunday.

Nice report. What was the high temp for the day?

You know, I meant to bring my thermometer, but forgot. The forecast, though, was for a high temp of around 14F/-10C (at the elevation of Lake Placid). It felt a little colder than that even in the middle of the day, to tell you the truth, but that may have been due to being at a higher altitude.
