Date of Hike: 11-07-09
Hikers: Tmax and Topofgothics
Trail Conditions: Still wet with some ankle deep mud at the lower elevations of the Beaver Meadow Trail. Up higher the trails were icy with a couple of inches of snow. Gothics summit was blown clean.
Special Equipment Recommended: Winter boots, gaiters, traction devices. It's time for a pack full of winter gear up there!
Comments: Had crampons with us but didn't use them because of the on-off factor but ultimately I took more time to negotiate the ice than it would have taken to deal with crampons on-crampons off. Most people I saw out on the trails were using them. I did find my whippet quite useful for helping to maintain stability getting up and over some of the more tricky icy spots. After today's warm weather, I have no idea what the trails will look like!
