In 2005 I explored a few stages of the Walker's Haute Route, and decided that I probably could section hike it over two or three years. In 2006 I did not really feel fit enough; this year I smartened up and finally figured out that, at this stage of my life, my fitness was unlikely to "be better next year". So I bit the bullet and returned for the second installment.
During the past two years I have done a lot of reading, and have often consulted my good friend Google for information about obscure routes. I have written up a lot of the information that I have picked up in the haute route section of my web site. For the last month I have gone out and, slowly with many rest days, hiked a big segment of the route, returning to Boston yesterday. If all goes well I will finish next year.
It will take me some time to write up the trip reports, but Abster's report on the real Haute Route encouraged me to post this preliminary notice.
There are three versions of the Haute Route: the original mountaineering version, the backcountry ski version and the watered down walker's (hiker's in US speak!) version. Has any VFTTer done the ski version?
