Date of Hike: 05/21/2011
Trail Conditions: A week of rain & the Adirondacks in May. (read "a bit of mud & bugs")
Special Equipment Required: Bug spray would have been useful but this short trip barely over 2 miles RT can be done pretty quickly if you are in shape. (that leaves me out)
Comments: - after going over the Mass Pike, the obvious book end hike would involve going under a highway. This trail goes under the Northway in two culverts & shortly after starts a pretty decent climb for a 1693 foot hill. We had planned to go farther north but with scattered showers all over the place, a nice view without rain & an chance to explore more Vs a hike up Hurricane as planned in unknown weather was too nice to pass up. Nice view but the bugs kept us from exploring more to see if there was another view on the other side.
We later explored the trailheads & trails around the Tahawus area, including visiting Henderson Lake. Now that the bridge over the Hudson is out, how are people crossing to get to Allen? I'm going to ask in the NY Section.
