Date of Hike: 7/2-7/4
Hiked in late (10pm) on Friday 7/2/10 with headlamps from parking lot to Ward Brook lean to and found it occupied so set up tents at nearby camping disc. Set out for Seward and summitted within 2.5 hours and had gorgeous views. Some muddy sections and steep trails greeted us. We hiked the ridge to Donaldson and couldn't find the summit marker disc but were on the highest point on the mountain. Hit the infamous mud bogs on the way over to Emmons and found some good clean views up there on a picturesque day. Came back down via Calkins Brook. Hiked Seymour and out to the parking lot after breaking down camp on Sunday 7/4. Fantastic views and windy up top.
Trail Conditions: Most of the trails were adequately kept up for being "trail less" peaks. Some good blowdown and the steepness made it slow going. Muddy sections made for some interesting maneuvers while hiking.
Special Equipment Required: Trekking poles are very useful to make sure you don't go knee deep in some of the muddy sections, a headnet is probably worth the $5 investment, but not required. Gaiters and waterproof boots a must. Water filter or tablets are necessary as well.
Comments: Overall a fantastic trip and not too many people on these mountains given the amount of cars in the parking lot.
