Trail in to the Ward Brook lean-to has deep leaves and deep mud in spots. Path up Seymour begins very wet and muddy. Minor snow and ice after about 1/2 mile. Then lots of ice to the summit. I wore my goretex trailrunners with short gaiters. Mud reached the top of the the gaiters several times, but my feet stayed pretty dry. Put on microspikes at the beginning of the steep ledge. It would have been very difficult to negotiate this trail without traction, and there isn't anywhere near enough snow/ice for snowshoes or crampons. As I was on the summit by 10:15 AM, much of the trail was still frozen. I expect with the sunny warm days and cold nights the herd path will be wet and muddy in the afternoon and treacherously icy in the morning. Sat in the sun on the summit admiring one of my favorite views. Great day.
