Skied in from the summer trailhead. Road is narrowly plowed, but you need good traction. Very limited parking with a lot of snow (bring a shovel). We skied in to Ward brook, for the first mile along the snowshoe tracks of 2 hikers heading into the Calkins brook path and the rest of the way over untracked deep snow. Changed to snowshoes and struggled to the summit--more than 3 1/2 hours to hike 1 1/2 miles. Lost the trail twice on the ascent but broke these sections on the descent--so follow our downhill tracks. Were glad of the skis on the long way out. Managed to get back to the trailhead just after dark. 11 1/2 hours.
