Drove to the Winter parking lot. Hiked in to Ward Brook Leanto -- narrow packed down trail all the way. The split in the trail going towards Caulkins Brook and S,D,E had one set of snowshoe impressions with a lot of snow on top.
At Ward Brook Leanto stream we headed up along the stream breaking trail for most of it. We took a wrong turn W (right) at about 3800 feet before returning to our tracks and veering left towards the summit. Snowshoes were needed the entire trip. Someone had post-holed thigh-deep holes a good portion of the way up before.
Very windy and cold day.
