Last Saturday (3/14/09) I planned an easy stroll east of Lake George. My plan was to use the Big Bridges Trail (ADK Easter Guide 2nd edition - Trail #89) and the Shortway Trail (ADK #85) for an easy loop around Shelving Rock Road.
I took Buttermilk Falls Road and then Sly Pond Road. I never made it to Shelving Rock Road because the road was closed. The barricade was 9.1 miles from Route 149. It was on Sly Pond Road about half a mile before the Hogtown parking where Shelving Rock Road starts and more than 3 miles from where I wanted to go.
I turned around and went back 2.5 miles to the lot for the Butternut Brook trail (#74) and hiked Inman Pond instead. It was a great day and a great hike but I am still planning on going back for my originally planned hike. I am hoping for this Saturday.
Does anyone know whether the road has opened or not?
