Trail: Skookumchuck
Condition: Packed firm for first mile, then softer with new snow -- first an inch or so, then three inches, then, for the last mile, six inches to a foot. Until the next big snowfall, the trail should be easy to follow to its top, the junction with the Garfield Ridge trail.
Note: There's a 100-yard stretch or so at around 3,900-4,000 feet where the snowshoe track does not follow the proper Skookumchuck route and sort of spaghettis around through the trees, but it reconnects with the trail fairly quickly.
Special equipment: Snowshoes from Skookumchuck Brook. A guy behind me made it to the top in Stablicers, however, following the trail I had packed.
A great day on a favorite trail. More in Trail Reports.
