A relatively easy but great late Fall hike. On the way up there was a little snow at bottom with up to a foot in places up high, although snow stiff enough to support weight (especially my little dog's); on way down lowest part of trail bare wet leaves. No blowdowns. Barebootable all the way, but after a few more hikers knock some snow off, up high one may want some traction in a few places. I had planned to do a loop with Smarts Ranger, and at least one hiker did, but I like this trail so much I went back down it. Saw another hiker who did the Doan and perhaps J trail loop. I couldn't open the tower door; perhaps it was frozen but I was holding my dog so I didn't want to generate too much motion.
