Lower ATV trails/roads muddy, many blow downs (too numerous to count) on the main herd path. Second path (from herd path junction up to summit) in great shape.
Special equipment needed: bug spray (they were out today).
We went under, over and around all the blow downs and tried to get the smaller trees off the path. There's a viewpoint just below the summit (a nice surprise for us).
Recent changes to the ATV trails have altered the approach to this peak. Parking lot and point of entry are the same. Stay on main trail, crossing 3 ATV bridges and when ATV trail veers left go straight (over a berm with rocks). Continue on - straight at a 4-way intersection (bridge on left) and follow the stream for a short distance. Take the ATV trail on right (broken yellow sign on ground) - follow for short distance then go left when you reach the logging/ATV road. Follow (past the steep part) up to a cairn on the right, which marks the original herd path, which takes you to the summit. A bat house on a tree next to the fallen shelter is your "canister." Clever.
