South Carter, Middle Carter, Carter Dome, Mt. Hight via Nineteen Mile Brook Trail, Carter Dome Trail, Carter-Moriah Trail

Date of Hike: Saturday, March 7, 2009

Trail Conditions: Spring snow, packed powder, blue ice

Special Equipment Required: Snowshoes

Comments:

Nineteen Mile Brook Trail to Carter Dome junction - well packed, barebootable. Small water crossings are open.

Carter Dome Trail to Zeta Pass - well packed, snowshoes not a bad idea. I removed one blowdown, but a few remain. Small water crossings are open, but the two main brook crossings are snowbridged.

Carter-Moriah Trail to South Carter - decently packed, a few blowdowns. Follow our tracks just south of the South Carter summit for a nice eastern view about 20 feet off the trail!

Carter Moriah Trail to Middle Carter - we broke this out, decently packed, a few blowdowns. A single set of snowshoe tracks coming from the north from Middle Carter.

Carter Dome Trail to Carter Moriah Trail to Carter Dome - decently packed, a few blowdowns. Excellent views in nearly every direction from snowdrifts at summit.

Carter Moriah Trail to Mt. Hight - not too well packed, lots of different tracks, somewhat hard to follow in places. Some blue ice above treeline.

Carter Moriah Trail back to Zeta Pass - well packed.
