Date of Hike: Tuesday, October 8th
Trails: North Twin Trail, Herd Path bypassing first two crossings, North Twin Spur, Twinway, Frost Trail, Garfield Ridge Trail, Gale River Trail
Trail Conditions: Trails are in good shape, not too wet either. Most of the leaves are down covering up roots, small rocks, and mud pits, so for hikers who roll ankles or have unsure footing the leaves can be slippery on top of the rocks and roots. Water crossings were easy and rock hop-able. For those looking to hike the North Twin Trail for the first time, you can bypass the first two crossings by following a well defined herd path that stays to the left of the river. The third crossing can either be done walking across a downed tree trunk above the water or heading further upstream where you have more options for rock hoping across.
*** The trail signs with the mileage info at the beginning of the North Twin Trail and Gale River Trail are gone. The whole post has been taken out at North Twin, leaving a hole in the ground, and at Gale River the post is there but the signage is gone.***
Comments: Weather started off in the clouds but cleared up to be a blue bird day. Lower sections of the trails have a rainbow of colors blanketing the ground which looks really pretty. Beautiful fall hike, crisp and cool with good views. A fun hike with Whitney, who brought along yummy brownies! One peak left for her 48! Pictures
