This was an AMC Harvard Cabin trip that I was co-leading. We were looking for a relatively low elevation hike, roughly 8 miles, little exposure since it was likely to be in the rain all day. And it was.
We split our group into two groups, starting at either end with a key swap somewhere in the middle. My group started at the Mt Langdon trailhead, took a quick side trip up to Cave Mt, and then walked in the rain for a bit. We were all wet, but not too cold so things went OK. We finally hit the Mt Langdon shelter (which is looking a bit worse for wear) and had a semi-dry lunch in the leaky shelter.
After lunch is an immediate stream crossing, which was raging. One of our group fell in, but frankly, he was no wetter than the rest of us. The trail up Mt Langdon was a streambed, with several inches of water flowing down the entire climb. No realy views up top, so we skipped along the ridge trying to find small views on each of the Crippies, but no luck until near the end. The forest was exceedingly green, however.
Sunday wasn't nearly as wet, but we had to take off early so we headed up to Arethusa Falls to see what all the rain had wrought. We were not disappointed.
Wet, but fun.
