If you were only going to do one hike in the Southern Presidentials this summer, which one would you recommend. I'm asking because I've never done anything in that area and am only going to get one chance this summer before moving out of NE. Strictly a day hike, and no more than 10-12 miles round trip (i.e. no Mt. Isolation suggestions please :D) is the type of thing I'm looking for. Thanks in advance for any advice!

Ike + Pierce + Jackson (+Webster) is about 13 miles, including the road walk, and 3900'. That way you don't have to decide! With a car spot, thumb, or bicycle you can save about 2 miles between the trail heads.

Up Ammonoosuc to Lakes, Monroe, then Eisenhower and down the Edmands Path. It's an easy hitch back to your car, even easier if you do the route in reverse.

I like Dave's suggestion, but would consider extending it a bit if the weather's good and you're feeling strong - rather than backtracking a bit after Eisenhower, continue south and descend Clinton to Crawford Notch (US302). This adds about 2 miles - if you have a carspot, it's not that much extra. But, if you have to walk back to Ammo, then it's an extra 4 miles, which would make it a big day for many of us.

Ask and you shall receive, I love this board!

Thanks for the great suggestions!
