Starr King Trail parking

Hi all,

There is a chance I may be hiking Waumbek next week and was wondering where to park if the trailhead parking lot is full or if the road is unplowed.

The AMC WMG states that under such conditions, one should park at the Jefferson village swimming pool, just east of the junction of Routes 2 and 115A. Just wondering if that is the best option, or if there are other suggestions.

There typically is a plowed lot almost directly across the street during snowmobile season. Its early so it may not be plowed (but I suspect it is with the recent snow.) Worse case is there is plowed parking just down the road a short distance near the store.

Peakbagger has it dead on. But to stress things DON'T GO DOWN THE ROAD TO THE SUMMER TRAIL LOT! You might get stuck! I did...in a 4 wheel drive pick up to boot ! Save yourself the hassel and park in the lot just across the street from the road....its only about 150 yard walk anyways.

Did Waumbek a few days ago and parked at the plowed-out area on Rt. 2, just a couple minutes' walk EAST of the turnoff to the trailhead. We broke out a beautiful trail, but that was before the last snowstorm!
