Climbed Sugarloaf today via the Mink Hollow Trail and Devils Path. Started out with about 2-3 in. of snow at the bottom, and had about 6-8 in. at the top. Bright sunny day that topped out at about 40 deg.
At about 3000 ft. passed a group of five hikers who turned back due to the steep heavy ice flow. I bushwacked my way around this ice and continued on up. There was about 4 or 5 other sections of steep heavy ice and lots of ice on the trail under 6 to 8 in. on snow.
After reaching the summit, I made my way back to find the view point on the southwest corner. Had to find a view after working so hard to get up there. Great view.Had lunch there sitting on the slab then started back down.
It was very slick going back down and the snow was starting to get slushy. When I got back to the Mink Hollow trail, a lot of snow melt turned a lot of the trail into a stream.
This was a good hike and turned out to be quite challenging. A few times I had contemplated turning back.
Upon reaching the 3500 ft elevation, I knew that I had to summit.
