Have you ever been to the open fire tower or ranger cabin on Smart's Mountain in Orford? If not, why not join us tomorrow, visit the summit, climb the tower, and help in a little AT Boundary work? We would welcome as much or as little time as you can spend with this tiny group of 3 AT Corridor volunteers and two Labs.

All you need are gloves, long sleeves, long pants, lunch, water, and a desire to be a volunteer for a couple of hours.

This is a really rugged section of the boundary that hasn't been touched for 20 years or more that runs West from the Daniel Doan trail. The summit of Smart's is only about fifteen minutes from the boundary section we will be working on.

The ticks are gone, the bugs are gone, it's cool and pleasant in the woods.

Tomorrow meaning October 4th.

More info:

If you decide to hike Smart's tomorrow whether or not you have time to help out the crew, here is location information.

The crew is meeting at 8:00 AM at the three way intersection of Mousley Brook Road and Quintown Road in Orford. Quintown Road heads South off NH Rte 25A about three miles north of the village of Orfordville.

If you get there later, just follow Mousley Brook Road until you reach the gated end. Park there and continue following the dirt road watching for trail signs for the Daniel Doan trail. The trail signs are painted in Dartmouth Outing Club Orange.

Even if you don't participate, we would be happy to demonstrate what Appalachian Trail Corridor Monitoring involves. You can then continue another fifteen minutes up to the fire tower and bag a 3228 foot mountain. It must be on somebodies list:p
