Been a while because of other trips and school starts tomorrow...just wanted to say thx again to Spence and Maddi for the warm welcome and to Darren for the web site...

So..Taylor is 9 and she says she loves hiking...don't know where she's been except for the stairs at the local mall so Spence sends us to Hurricane mtn...weather was cloudy...my first hike in the last 2-3 weeks so the sweat is pouring out of my head, don't understand how much sweat can come out of my head but that's a different question...Taylor is short so she's taking loads of steps going up....she stay's app 1 trail marker ahead of me...we get up there, see the tower and it's a cloudy view, nothing much to see...going down i lead in order to help her, she was a bit nervous going down...next day Phelps

We start with others and will meet up with them later...same thing going up...i'm sweating and she's 2 markers ahead of me...."Isn't this fun daddy?..she says this about 10 times until i tell her to be quiet...I was trying to have fun but i was getting tired (out of shape) we get to the summit and zero views and very windy...we stay for app 5-10 min and go back down slowly...boring walk last 2 1/2 miles to the car...next and last day...Cascade

Me and my big mouth..after app 1/2 mile she says "
gee daddy, 3 hikes in a row is not easy"...yea i tell her but it's a beautiful day, she stays app 20 feet in front of me the whole way...it was a beautiful view when we got to the top..then we drove home and dropped Freddy off back in NYC...glad she had fun....bye

Great story! I love seeing the kids out there on the trails, really having fun and appreciating it. That's something they will take with them all their lives. 30 years from now she'll still remember these times spent with you in the woods.
:)

I concur with MichaelJ. If I'm not smiling on the outside, I am always smiling inwardly when I see parents taking their kids hiking and it's clear they are having the times of their lives. That's great your kids enjoy it and it's awesome you're giving them the opportunites. :)

Thanks guys...I did what I had to do...now it's up to them to continue when they get the chance...I hope when they read stories in school about the wilderness they start to day dream about their hikes in the DAKS..I know that's what happens to me..take care..

Glad to see you had fun with Taylor, David. She's at a good age to start hiking too.
Leaving Daddy in the dust is going to give her lots of confidence for the future.
Nice to meet up with you at the gathering.
