With my plans to do Carlo and Goose Eye cancelled due to bad weather, I decided that I should do something that the views would be minimal on. Since I'd only done Tecumseh once, I figured that would be a good choice. To make it more interesting, and complete my red lineing of it, I would also go across the Sosman trail, bushwhack to Green Mtn. and then decend via the utility road.
When I got to the trailhead, it was cloudy but, there were still some partial views. I "raced" up, stopping at the viewpoint and taking a picture. From there I continued up and reached the summit in about an hour.
There I took some cloudy pictures before heading out on the Sosman trail. This was actually kind of aexciting since I hadn't been out there before. I wondered about what the view would have been like at the first viwpoint I came to and wondered even more at the bench. It was kind of beat up but, it could still hold my weight. I'll have to come back on a clear day.
Once at the ski lift clearing, I followed my bearing out toward Green Mtn. At first, I passed through short spruce but eventually hit the full grown stuff. By not paying close enough attention to my compass, I fell off the ridge and wound up in some thicker stuff. Eventually, I made it to the summit and man, was I glad! It got quite a bit more open when I regained the ridge.
At the summit, I found the sign from when Green was on the list of 3Kers. I also saw that, if it was clear, there would have been a view there. Happy that I had made it there, I headed back. This time, I faired much better and got back much quicker despite more climbing.
The way down was steep and misty. However, a high point was that near the bottom, I saw at least a dozen wild turkeys pecking around.
Once I got back to my car, I drove like a madman up to Stowe to join the others at the gathering and the rest, as they say, is history.
