Part one--Pleasant Mountain 11/25
This Thanksgiving for the eleventh time in a row I headed up Pleasant Mt. for
a pre Thanksgiving dinner hike. The first year I did it alone. The next seven years
Duffy was with me and the last three years Lauky came along. In fact three
years ago at the age of four months, it was the first peak Lauky would bag.
This year we headed up the Bald Peak trail which is very steep up to the Ridge.
Once on the Ridge it offers magnificent views all the way to the main peak.
As you arrive on the main peak you are greeted by the fire tower. Just as we
Arrived from one direction we saw someone arrive from another trail. It was
the legendary Wolfgang. It was not the first time that we had met on that mountain
as he also lives in the area. He mentioned in our conversation that he has only
83 peaks left for completing his grid. He plans to finish this winter if all goes well.
We took in the views then headed back.
For the return we continued on past the Bald Peak trail and went over to Shawnee Peak.
We headed down the slopes taking in the great views, then it was off to a great
Thanksgiving feast.
