I was actually quite surprised at the number of people out during the weekend despite the inclimate weather.
Hit the four corners no prob and headed up the last half mile to Skylight.
I was anxious to finish , but i could tell Slammy was lagging behind.
Did he injure homself? No he was just reflecting on the last four years when this all began. Originally we thought it would take us ten years perhaps longer to finish the 46 great ones , and maybe never finish. But As i,ve told many people , it becomes an obsession, an addiction. And no its not about the patch . Its The excitement of the ""next peak"" The next trip. The great people you meet and yes even the Rain. It all makes for great stories later on.
So i digress. We made it to the top of Skylight with no problems. To .......
You guessed it Views of fog. We sat on the summit and digested it all for a while and for a brief moment we were able to see the silouet of Marcy .
And we did get to see Redfield. And yes we could see blue sky off to the north . But the weather would not lose its grip where we were.
Two of the group from Longisland came up to congratulate us.
They were trying for Marcy and Haystack . But settled for Marcy and Skylight.
Slammy and i headed down. We waited for the two younguns at Lake tear of the clouds and showed them where the trail to Gray was and they were of with a single bound.Back at the leanto we celebrated with some svedka and OJ.
Monday we awoke to much of the same and heade for the trail head.
And yes before we had reached the end we were once again wearing rain
gear.Got back to the car to discover mice had been having a field day inside Slammys almost new car. There were mouse droppings every where .
All in all despite the wet weather it was an awesome weekend .
I cant wait to go back and do the dozen or so peaks that we did in the rain or blinding snow storms over again so i can see what i was missing.
And then ......The highest one hundred ? Vermont, newhampshire?
As they say in show bizz....... Stay tuned.
