Shamie and I flew out to San Diego for an amazing vacation on the 14th and, always being one to make sure that no opportunity to enjoy the outdoors is wasted, I made sure that as soon as we got our rental car, we set out to spend the rest of the afternoon exploring Torrey Pines State Park. It had been highly recommended to me by several members of the VFTT community and I'm happy to say, I was not dissapointed.

For those who are not familiar with this jewel contained within San Diego's city limits, allow me to tell you a little bit about it. TPSP is one of only two homes for the Torrey Pine, which one of the rarest trees in the world. They only grow in the area of the park and on an island off the California coast. It used to be that they were more prevelant but, habitat loss, bark beetles, and severe droughts have dwindled the numbers and range of this beautiful tree. The park itself, of course, is also host to a wide variety of plants as well as landscapes. From rolling hills, to the beach, to dramatic badlands, there is something to appeal to any eye.

We started up high at the Visitors Center and they explored some of the dramatic trails in that area, avoiding the closed trails, and taking in the spectacular views of the badlands. Then, we visited the Highpoint (of course) which gives views of the city though it was too hazy to photograph well. Finally, we explored a nice trail loop that took us through pleasant woods, out onto cliffs overlooking the ocean and back.

All in all, we explored the park for about 3hrs after flying across the country and before driving the long distance out to Joshua Tree where we spent the night before exploring the National Park there the next day (TR and pics to come).

Here are A LOT of pics
