One of my adopted trails is the Mt. Tremont Trail. Today was the first opportunity I’ve had to do my spring clean-up of this trail. There was a recent “Trail Conditions” report on this forum indicating that this trail had blowdowns and debris. Well, the report was accurate. There certainly were a lot of both.

All the debris has been removed, and the blowdowns have either been removed or at least taken care of in such a way that hikers can pass over, under, or around them almost without breaking stride. So, if you hike this trail in the near future you will definitely still come across blowdowns. But hopefully, you won’t find them to be an annoyance. Sometime over the few months, I’ll eventually remove most of these blowdowns, however a Forest Service crew might be needed to remove some of the larger ones.

Eventually, I worked my way up to the summit and got the usual nice views from there. Below is a sample of some of these views.
Others have posted similar views many times in the past. But here they are again. Guess one more time can’t hurt!

The view of the Carrigain Notch is particularly nice from Tremont.

Here’s a view southward featuring Passaconaway, Tripyramids, et al

And lastly, here’s a view featuring Green’s Cliff with Sawyer Ponds in foreground

Hmmm! I thought it was strange today - going up Tremont, lots of debris. Coming down, nice and clean! We must have missed you when we went on to Owl's Cliff before coming back!

That is one beautiful trail you have to maintain, John! I really enjoyed the lovely brook with all the cascades. And at the top of Tremont, there is an excellent secluded ledge on the south end of the peak through the mass of pokey twigs! Sorry we missed seeing you!

That’s too funny! I saw another car parked at the trailhead when I pulled in and kept thinking all day that I would run into whoever was hiking the trail. But, since you guys went on over to Owls Cliff, I guess that explains how we missed each other.

Yes, you are so right about how scenic it is as you hike the lower part of the trail along Stony Brook. There are lots of very picturesque cascades. Perhaps you also got a photo of the cascade shown below which is my favorite of all the cascades along this trail.

Regarding secluded ledges on Tremont, there are several of them, and some are a bit more difficult to whack to than others. One that I particularly like is a bit north of the main summit which features a view toward a portion of the Presidentials & Carters. Below is a photo showing the view from there.

I saw both vehicles parked on 302 and figured 1HappyHiker had enlisted a helper in his trail maintenance! I was going to stop by and hike in on my way back in the evening, but alas the 1HappyHonda wasn't there, thus I went to Dairy Queen instead.

Great shots - I waved from the Signal Ridge Trail, but no one waved back.

Thanks for the update, I'm heading to Tremont and Owls Cliff tomorrow. Also thanks for the info on the ledges. Nice pics!

1HappyHiker got in his 1HappyHonda a little before 6PM, so I guess you began your trek to Mt. Dairy Queen sometime after that!
Thanks for your work on the this Trail...a true Gem!
Thanks Skiguy!
Even before I adopted the trail, I felt Mt. Tremont was a “true gem”. The summit, and the trail to it, both have a lot of character!
I had never been up there until last week, and enjoyed the trail and views. I bet it's better now without the blowdowns and snow.
Glad you enjoyed your first-time hike to Tremont . . . sorry the trail wasn’t in better condition!
Like I said in my report, there are still blowdowns that need to be removed, but at least they are all now “fixed” in such a way that folks can more easily get over, under or around them.

Oh! And would you believe that up near the top, and just slightly off the trail, there was still one small patch of snow!

Hope you have a great hike, and that you have time to explore an off-trail ledge or two!
Thanks for all your work on the trail. :D
Gheez MadRiver, it’s me who should be thanking you! Your adopted trail (Webster Cliff Trail) is one of my top 10 favorite trails. I love the views from it, and you always keep it in tip-top shape. I was really sorry to hear about the recent landslide on your trail, but in true form, you’ve done a fantastic job managing the situation.

I must have just missed you! I was driving down Sawyer River Road at 5:55PM!

Excellent TR and photography! NeoAkela's pics are awesome as well. The first one (pano from summit) is as good as it gets ;)

happy trails :)

The Artist captured in action

I was fortunate enough to join John for a hike up Mt Tremont and took this picture of him taking the picture shown up above. That was a beautiful day August day to be walking along that shady green cascade. Neoagela's wide angle shot captures a wonderland. Really magical! Like something out of Tolkien!

Been putting Tremont off for too long now. That has to change! :D
Hey Brian . . . yeah you should give it a try sometime. And, if you have this luxury, it’s not too bad of a car spot to park one car at the Tremont trailhead, and another car at the trailhead for the Rob Brook Trail on Bear Notch Road. This enables you to do Mt. Tremont and Owl’s Cliff without having to retrace your steps. But, rather than take the Rob Brook Trail which is sort of wet and wild, I personally prefer to use the Rob Brook ROAD. The road ends up at the very same place as the trail, and it is a really nice woodland road . . . almost like a wide trail.
Excellent TR and photography! NeoAkela's pics are awesome as well.
Thank you Patrick for the nice words about my photos, however none of my photos are comparable to the magic that you and Chris (NeoAkela) perform with your masterful photography skills!

Ray . . . I had no idea that you had a photo of me taking a photo of my favorite cascade when we did our hike back in August.
Thanks for posting!
