:p Does anyone have any trip reports and photos of Tuck's... Along with Adams and the King Ravine trail I am doing Tuck's for the first time July 4th weekend!!!
Also... anyone know of any interesting fun happening in the White's July 4th weekend?

Thanks!!!!

Does the 'Snow Arch' still form every year?

Reading "Not without Peril" right now (great read!) and they mention it, but I never hear anything about it on the board.

Anyone got any pics?

Check out Dave Metsky's trip reports, he's got a couple of King Ravine reports with pictures. Any specific questions?

White Mountain Server-trip reports

I actually like a challenge... I am afraid of heights and exposure, but can break through it... as I have out in Colorado and on the Cathedral Trail (Katahdin)... Do you have any info on Huntington? How much more difficult is it than Tuck?

They are different, imo.

On Tucks, you get a massive sensation of openess and scale. Just being in a bowl that big with walls that high around you can be a bit unnerving at first. I still get goose bumps looking up at Boott Spur. That said, the trail is just that... a trail. There are no significantly difficult portions of that trail in terms of risk of a fall.

Huntington on the other hand seems more close in and contained. But, it is on the edge of being a climbing route. The "fan" at the bottom is a slab that is slippery when wet and would be a very hard down climb. There are a few sections above that requires the use of hands, including a baby-chimney.

Huntington Vs. Tuckerman

There is no comparison between the 2. Huntington is much more difficult than Tucks. Much more exposure and much steeper. Refer to the AMC guidebook for a very good description of this trail. Good luck and Happy Hiking.

Not the best, but if you look closely you can see hikers on the right side of the snow to give scale to how large the "opening" at the bottom is. Photo was taken mid July of 1997.
