We skied up the Turtleback Mountain Trail to the summit of Turtleback, skied back down to the Bald Knob Trail and took that up to Bald Knob, then out the same route. Early on, the Turtleback Mt. Trail had great skiing but a steady stream of snowmobiles dug the snow up badly for our descent. Side trails to Turtleback's summit and to Bald Knob were superb, with deep powder.
Skis are the fun tool for this.
It was a cold day but the light wind allowed us to enjoy the stunning views at both summits in relative comfort. Skiing in the Ossipees, off the snowmobile track, is ideal at this point. Note: snowmobiles are allowed only on the Shannon Brook and Turtleback Mountain Trails and a couple of short trail segments at top that get them to Mt. Shaw.
