This was originally going to be an ambitious shot at all 5 dixes, but there was just a little too much trailbreaking required for us to manage all 5. What we did do, though, was a winter ascent up the Boquet River approach, up the East Dix slide, across East Dix, South Dix, and Macomb, down the Macomb Slide, and out to Elk Lake. That's the first time I've ever done two ADK slides in a day!
Trailbreaking the East Dix slide was quite tough; Fortunately, though we had a good track on top (i.e. from East Dix to Macomb) from Ron and Gordon and co. from the day before. The trail to Hough from South Dix was not broken, and we didn't have the gumption to go for it. So we went out over Macomb and down.
If anyone wants to try the Boquet River approach in the winter - there's now a good track. Now's the time to do it!
Had a great time; was great having new people to hike with: got to meet Clay, Mark and Linda. Hope to hike with you guys again soon!
