Trail: Webster Jackson Trail

Date of Hike: Sunday, February 8, 2009

Trail Conditions: Packed powder

Special Equipment Required: Snowshoes, enough gear to cope with the variety of weather conditions, (rail, hail, sleet, blowing snow, precipitous drop in temperature, etc.) dark glasses for scoping out the scene at the Highland Center, credit card for shopping at outlets

Trail maintenance conditions: One large crawl-under blowdown one mile in, followed by one smaller step-over blowdown

Comments: The intended hike for today got shorter and shorter as the forecast changed and as the conditions deteriorated through the morning. Ethan (13) tried out a pair of MSR Denalis, but decided he likes his Tubbs better, since he can lean back and glide down the steeps more easily on them. We called it a day when we got the the "Fork" and temperatures plummetted. The Jackson branch was well-packed by several descending snowshoers. We spent the rest of the day testing the validity of points made in the "Musings on the Highland Center" thread and shopping in North Conway and at Ragged Mountain Equipment.
