Nice base of semi-consolidated snow adheres well to the slabs on the Red Trail, making for decent climbing conditions. These rocks can be pretty darned slick when it's all powder over verglas, but right now there aren't many spots where modern tractionified snowshoes won't get you through with ease. There's been some traffic on the mountain, though the winds on the ridgetop don't take long to blow in old tracks. We broke out the white trail on the way down. Good deep snow in the woods & lots of moose tracks leading every which way.
Snowshoes essential. Poles helpful. Face protection & goggles nice to have up on the ridgetop.
My daughter's first mountain climb on snowshoes. Happy times.
