This would have been a wonderful hike if I was feeling well today!!! The views were excellent though and the weather was near perfect --- very warm, blue skies and only a light breeze. Another fall day that felt like summer, which is fine with me. I used all of the wonderful advice and directions everyone helped me with to get to the Ferncroft trailhead --- Many, many thanks to all!!!
I went up Blueberry Ledge to the summit of Whiteface only, having already summitted Passaconaway from the Kanc a couple of weeks ago. I plan on doing this hike again, both peaks this time, hopefully when the fall colors will really be stunning, and when I hopefully won't be ill on the trail :(. This would be an incredible one to do then, with so many hardwoods dominating the landscape in that area. The only color right now is in the wetland in Sandwich along the way to the trailhead. The drive alone is spectacular though and should only get better with fall colors all around.
If anyone plans on doing this hike, don't miss the Holderness General Store, either!!! Great toys and oher fun stuff :D! I need to go back; they have a cool rubber band shooter that I really MUST have :p ...
I'll also mention that at the moment there is a house on the left side of the road about 5 miles down 113 ( just after the sign for the Camps on the right) that has cut flowers for sale on the front lawn. You don't see that too much these days, and it won't last much longer this season. I got a bunch, and it was the best $2.50 I ever spent :). I highly recommend this one.

Nice! I can only imagine the view from the Whiteface Ledges, having been up there in 50' visibility with pouring rain ... when the foliage comes out it will surely be incredible.

Sorry you were ill - we all have our moments when the trail gets the better of us. It just gives a good reason to go back!
:)

Nice

Awsome mountain range, with great views, old trails, not over used, just great.

With all the trip reports I read I get more and more itchy to get out there. I'm sure you know what I mean! Maybe I can talk my wife into getting up north this weekend for a easy hike (Monadnock maybe).

Wonalancet the village that the trail head is located in has to be in my top 10 places I would like to retire to (even though it's 35 or so years away). I stayed in a cabin about half way down the dirt road from 113. It was a great experiance!

I think I'm due for a visit back there this weekend and a nice hike up!
