I know we all love hiking and all but it's not all we do. For instance, I enjoy running (have a 10k race coming up) and mountain biking, Kayaking - pretty much anything out of the house. So how come there isn't a place to discuss that stuff? P.S. Also enjoy old school video games, writing poetry - all kinds of stuff.

Darren founded VFTT (then http://www.viewsfromthetop.com/, which he still owns) a long time ago because usenet news groups were 98.6% noise, 1.4% content (not unlike Facebook, although more anonymous and therefore much rawer.) He personally funded the site to the tune of $10K over the years, and therefore he made the rules. Several years ago, he no longer wanted to pay for nor administer the site, so the moderators took it over and it is funded with donations via the PayPal Donate button above. The rules and focus more or less remain unchanged. Mainly because of the moderation overhead, we try to limit the focus to the forums you see here.

Lots of us have other interests, and there are other sites for those interests. Where do you think BikeHikeSkiFish comes from? ;);)

There is a kayak sub-forum "Paddle Park" which you may opt-into but it is very low volume.
