Anyone ever use this ski trail for hiking? Want to do a loop over the Wildcats and Carter Dome without backtracking and/or car spotting. My Backcountry Ski book mentions this trail, and it shows on some topo maps. I am familiar with the 'backside' of the Carters, having done a few trips in that area in the past.

Since this trail ends at the summit of one of the Wildcats, my hope was to follow it to the ridge, then go North until hitting the summit of Carter Dome. From there, I can take Black Angle Trail back into Perkins Notch. Or, some variation similar.

The Wildcat Valley Trail would make this an attractive loop, but some ski trails aren't built for hiking (and certainly vice-versa), so any input would be great.

Thnx.

Bring rubber boots, as you say it wasn't laid out for hiking hence there are some swampy areas including a deep one

Also bring JVSTC map if upbound, there are some confusing jcts

Thanks Roy. I was worried that might be what we run into. Low scrub I can deal with, but probably going to pass if it's that swampy.

Wildcat River Trail

OK, on to this idea instead. I haven't been up the Wildcat River Trail yet. One map I have handy (Delorme's) shows a river crossing fairly close to the Ramparts near the hut. Anyone know if it's reliable? Any camping ideas near there?

Thnx
