got # 32 and #33....2 more to go....

Big thx goes out to Snickers, Rocky summit and Mudhook for joining me on this wonderful April winter hike....We got a bit of everything....sun, snow squalls, loads of animal tracks including bear, recent blowdowns from the mid week storm....this ws going to be a lond day for my knees, 2 days earlier I went on the Rocky Lone bushwack so my knees were still sore....It was a climb right away after signing in...we barebooted for a while but decided to put the crampons on when snickers was taking a good amount of time to get up a legde...once the crampons were on we were quit comfortable and we continued on...the trees were coated with ice and the snow was sitting on branches hanging into the trail...glad it was cold outside or we would have been soaked...I got to lead at my pace and followed some bobcat tracks along the trail for quit a way...very cool looking at were the rabbit, grose (Sp?) and cat marks were...mudhook spotted the bear tracks and i kept looking for them...i found some more along the way...after a few more minutes I found my way to the back to the pack.....after a short break Mudhook told me to lead....It was like being at a surprise party, "you go first", I had a real good feeling that he was letting me lead becaue we were getting closer to the summit and I heard that it has the best views of all the peaks....Well let me say thx to Jim because when i began to see the clearing i rushed through and before me was the largest 180 degree view of the Catskill region...it was awesome...while everyone dropped their pack I just stood there in awe....then I realized that i carried some "Sweet Sue" muffins to the summit for my friends...Muffins on the summit, last week bagels, what's next, flounder?

Another couple showed up a few minutes behind us and helped with pics....they weren't prepared with the winter conditions so they went back down....We continued on to cornell and I was greated with more wonderful views....we took our time....app 10 hours and i think almost 10 miles...came out in more snow squalls....so much to tell but don't want to bore you,,,,,thx a billion to the nicest folks to hike with...will get pics up during the week...

I assume you started at Woodland Valley? That's a great hike. Views from Wittenburg are fantastic.

Artex....It was amazing...the views made me forget about the pain in my knees....glad that I was able to get involved in this hobby, I'll remember it for the rest of my life...after we hit Cornell I wished we could have continued up and over Slide...It would have been both a physical and mental test for me....the weather was real crazy also...snow, sun, snow, sun...I thought Indian Head had the best views but this beat it....
