What an amazing day
Started at Woodland Valley Campground Trail Head (Wittenberg First) @ 7:30 A.M. Great day... warm, trail well maintained, and the sun was shining. Wittenberg is magical. Kept running into webs on the trail as we were the 1st in the a.m. to start the trail! Worms, soon lots of butterflies will be in the wilderness...
Summit to Wittenberg was phenominal, clear day, lots of fun scrambles.
LOTS OF BLACKFLIES... Bring bug spray!
Path from Wit to Cornel, easy traverse, sumit to slide (WOW) We thought we'd be tired, hiking 7 miles already... Not so paced ourselves and made it.... Took the loop around... Took wrong turn about 2 miles aftetr summit of SLide into Private property, but this mistake cut off about .25 miles... Got on road a bit then took path to the right, it looks private but isn't... It's right off of Slide Mtn road, past the lake on the right... This cuts off about 1 mile and save you 600 more of elevation gain, doesn't sound like a lot but when you've gone 10-12 miles so far it's worth it... This path cuts right onto the Yellow trail, which completes the loop... From here you have2.65 miles left... About 1.65 miles from here be aware there is a rop in elevation, but you go right back up... about 600 feet... It's a shoker, but it revtalizes you for the last mile
14 miles finished at 3:30 P.M.
BOTTOM LINE: DO THIS LOOP!!! It's magical and enchanting, and challenging
