Left from Woodland Valley. We were suprised the trail had not been broken. I used to winter backpack the area and it was always like a highway. Put on snowshoes after the bridge and we headed up. The dogs stayed on top and we only broke through about 6 inches. Wasn't bad of a snowshoe, the steep areas the big dog needed some help. No view due to the fog. As the temperatures warmed up the big dog was post holing but the other dog was staying up on top. Came back down to the terrace trail intersection and the big dog decided she was going down at her pace. It got to a point where we put here in a rescue tarp and slid her down the trail for quite a while. Last steep part she said I can go the rest of the way (100 yards). Got out a little after 8 pm. We have all kinds of equipment for bad things in our packs but we didn't think so much of stuff for the dogs, lesson learned. An excellent snowshoe all day. No crampons needed.
