Trail Conditions:

The trail started of very dry for the first mile with a couple of wet areas and then after the junction for Marcy Dam/Algonquin it started to get a bit muddy. After the Whales Tail Ski Trail it really started getting muddy with some spots deep. Coming back down in the afternoon there was a bit more water and mud of the trail then the morning. About halfway through the hike the were patches of snow and ice quickly turning the mostly snow and ice except for a couple of spots. Our group used micro spikes which were very useful, no need for snowshoes. We fell through the snow very easily to the sides of the trail but the center was quite sturdy. No snow of the north side of the summit but due to winds we didn't make it all the way up so I'm not sure whats on the other sides.

Special Equipment Required:

Micro spikes were helpful but some people were not using any. We even saw a couple in running shoes but also saw butt marks down some parts of the trail. No need for snowshoes or skis.
