Cold conditions made for fast snow. Shoal Pond trail was broken out down to Stillwater. Broke out Ethan Pond trail past Shoal Pond junction out to Ethan Pond shelter and back again -- dust on crust -- but large party of snowshoers we met coming the other way will have made it very clear now. Snow pack is deep enough but just enough; skiing through the Notch a bit trickier than usual. Crust makes skiing the trees hard.
