    Mt. Parker

Me and my trusted companion Shay aka the Boy Wonder made our third ascent of Mt. Parker via the Mt. Langdon trail and the Mt. Parker trail. We were met with dry conditions the whole way, there is a small patch of insignificant snow on the final climb to the summit, my dog enjoyed eating some of...

Trailhead Break ins - Lake Region NH

I belong to 3 or 4 lakes Region hiking groups and this is not a large problem so far. Like the chief said, most likely crimes of opportunity.

Wapack trail Watatic to Windblown ski are NH 9.2 miles. The best laid plans of mice and men.

We had a knee brace which she used. I had a bottle of Advil which really would have helped, but she cant take Ibuprofen and she didn't carry a substitute.

Another Spring Day another S&R effort

The missing hiker from 2 weeks ago probably ran into a similar scenario, but he wasn't so lucky. Too bad they didn't find him while they were in there. Although my guess (and its just that) is that he went down Oaks Gulf.

Wapack trail Watatic to Windblown ski are NH 9.2 miles. The best laid plans of mice and men.

Me and a friend, a super nice lady I've hiked with for over two years now off and on, decided to start the Wapack trail on Thursday. I almost backed out, as I worked till 100am the night before and didn't sleep well, but I figured, it's the Wapack and she is slow anyway, I'll just take my time...

I do not differentiate the two, if your deep in the mountains.

Ultra Runner Search and Rescue in the Pemi

Respectfully disagree, I've been out hiking every week with no issues. It might have been a bad time "for him", but there are plenty of people out there now putting together successful trips. I turned around once this winter, mostly because the snow was deep and crusted on top and my dog looked...

Lost Hiker - Crawford Path Parking lot

Sounds like you started out with a sound mind and good decision making, even as an amateur. I believe in most cases of tragedy, the wrong decision at a key time can send someone down the rabbit hole and they can't recover from one bad choice. The few times I have had a crisis in the mountains...

Lost Hiker - Crawford Path Parking lot

I grew up in the White mountains, there is nothing easy about them if you run into trouble, hence the many deaths you have heard about. The problem with the Presidential Range in regards to getting in trouble is the drainages are extremely dangerous. If he wandered off trail down into Oaks Gulf...

Ultra Runner Search and Rescue in the Pemi

Kind of a "soft" rescue. The guy got help, however minimal, how it's classified is probably a debate with little value. Personally, as soon as SAR shows up, that's a rescue to me, if you don't need a "rescue" don't touch the phone and get your Ass out on your own. Tell wifey to wait 12 hours...

Ultra Runner Search and Rescue in the Pemi

This case brings up a point I have made in the past. I understand most people leave a call for help after this time plan, the problem is that time is usually too early. You should at least try and get yourself out, before calling for help. If your plan is to be out at say 700pm, does your wife...

Adirondack Forest Ranger Robbi Mecus died while ice climbing in Alaska

Thats a shame. Those big routes are riddled with objective dangers. She sounds like a Hell of a person and ranger.

Mt. Israel with a side trip the Beede Falls.

Nice job, that's way more miles than I typically do that's for sure. I happen to like the tote roads, but there are probably those that do and those that do not. Glad you enjoyed it. Bayle Mt. is the orphan of the range, accessible off route 16 and a bunch of back roads. You can bag it in short...

Mt. Israel with a side trip the Beede Falls.

Thought I would suggest two hikes to get you started. I picked these based on your desire to get in some miles and the second hike is my favorite hike in the range. 1. Mt. Roberts and Mt. Faraway loop. Ascend Mt. Roberts via the Mt. Roberts trail, traverse over to Mt. Faraway via the high ridge...

Mt. Israel with a side trip the Beede Falls.

You could look into the Ossipee Range. The Ossipee 10 can offer you hikes up to and over 10 miles. Very cool area with old tote roads, well beaten trails, not so well beaten trails that require at least some route finding. Most of the trails are accessed from the central hub known as the Castle...

Mt. Israel with a side trip the Beede Falls.

The Lincoln trail is the route one of my friends uses and loves, it's longer than the other routes, but she swears it's a great route. Right now it's still a mess. I climb up the other side year round and it "opens up" faster condition wise and is doable with little issues as of right now. The...

Mt. Israel with a side trip the Beede Falls.

Me and my dog do it fairly often since it's pretty close to where we live. Myself, off and on for quite a few years, a wonderful little mountain that I particularly enjoy in the winter.
