Mt. Liberty, Mt. Flume via bike (snowmobile) path, Liberty Spring Trail, Franconia Ridge Trail

Date of Hike: Friday, December 26, 2008

Trail Conditions: Loose granular

Special Equipment Required: Snowshoes

Comments:

Snowmobile trail was freshly groomed. We bushwhacked from the south side of the hiker parking lot to it, bypassing the (now broken out) Whitehouse Trail.

Liberty Spring Trail was in good shape - no remaining blowdowns, water crossings not a problem. Snowshoes recommended.

Franconia Ridge Trail to Liberty was in good shape as well. Used MSRs all the way to the summit - a few small patches of ice and bare ledge that were no problem for the MSRs.

Franconia Ridge Trail to Flume was not broken out, but is now well broken out for snowshoeing. All blowdowns removed, though a few hangers remain.

Basin bushwhack wasn't broken out as of ~3 PM, however some folks behind us intended to descend it, so it may be good to go now.

Osseo Trail, Flume Slide Trail, and Franconia Ridge Trail (northbound) were all *not* broken out.
