The Old Mast Rd. is in great condition. It is very smooth underfoot and climbs gradually and steadily gaining 1200' in two miles. There are no obstacles whatsoever.
The Walden trail is also in very good condition and has been cleared of all blowdowns. It climbs 2100' in 2.8 miles. It is very steep with many ledges. None of the ledges are real difficult, but there are many of them. The 400 extra feet over the Dicey's mill trail is from the Puds. It crosses over a couple of peaks including Nanamocomuck peak.
The trip down Dicey's Mill was routine and fairly fast as usual. There are no new or trail blocking blowdowns on this trail.
The one stream crossing on Dicey's mill was very easy today.
I needed Passaconaway but not Whiteface and wanted to do something different. The Old Mast--Walden route up was a real pleasure. We saw no one else out there until we headed down Dicey's Mill.
I highly recommend the Old Mast--Walden route as an outstanding alternative to the Dicey's Mill trail.
Total miles 9.4, Total elevation gain 3300'
